Last night I was fortunate enough to finally go on a girls night date with my friend Lyndsay. We ate at the Brewhouse.....peanut butter pie YUMO and then headed over to the PAC for the Miss Alaska United States and teen pageant. My friend Libby was competing for the miss as well as my directors cousin Emma. This was Libby's very first pageant and she placed 4th runner up. I couldn't be more proud of that beautiful young lady. I am so thankful God brought her into my life. I look forward to seeing what she does with her life in the future. My director Jeannine was there with her daughter Chloe. Always a good time with them. Jessica Nolin was handing down her title to the new Miss. I'll forever have her in my pageant memories because she led me to Diane at Arctic Rose in Wasilla for THE PERFECT nationals gown that I will keep and love forever. Thank you Jessica and Diane. Over dinner Lyndsay and I were chatting about my platform and she asked if I had done any events directed towards my platform. My platform is age oppression in young girls. Long story short the media is making my seven year old want to be seventeen instead of embracing her for who she is. I recently started teaching a bible study with my new found friend Sheldonia who's son was baptized today. (Yeah Uri) Anyway her and I are spending our Wednesday nights with the most amazing group of teenage girls. We've been discussing modesty, age appropriateness, and discovering what our roles are as young women. We are at week 3 and I know I'm right were God put me. I'm thankful to have gone through all the little steps that led me to the place that I am right now. I'm also going to speak to the teen girls at Grandview Baptist Church at their second annual sleepover. We will be discussing inner beauty and I really look forward to that event. But in response to Lyndsay's question I haven't held an event called "age oppression in young girls," but all those little girls that I keep blogging about that want to meet a "princess" they are all with their mothers and in talking with them they ask me about my platform and I get to speak to these mothers one on one and plant a seed about this issue and hopefully something will trigger in them when faced with what forms of media to allow in front of their daughters. I think it's been productive and I couldn't be more thankful for all of the people that have been brought into my life with becoming Mrs. Alaska. Well I'm off to take my daughter to kids choir practice. She has her very first solo and I'm so excited for her.
